friday wrap up

img via maisongray.com/blog/
Blog of the week goes to photographer Maison Gray. There really are no words to describe these aerial shots. The colour, the pattern, the colour, the pattern. Makes me want to pack my bags and hit the Hamptons (like I needed any encouragement).

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not one for selfies, but these leggings deserve it. In fact, they scream for it. They even get their own special Friday mention. Call me nuts (go ahead, my mother already has) but these things are the love of my life (I’m sure it will be something else next week, stay tuned). I got them from Grace a couple of weeks ago and the love is still strong. They are from French label Blanche. Run, don’t walk.
(Also note the dipped chair in the background - love love the pink)

On a more foody note, I had a lovely dinner last night at Pizza Religion with a few friends. It seems we not only have a wedding in our midst, we also have a BABY! How dang exciting. Next year is going to be a big year. Weddings and baby showers, a lot of styling…(hint hint ladies).
The pizza was amazing. Always is. Run, don’t walk, here as well.

A shout out also goes to my old faithful morning coffee at MoVida Bakery. Some days I doubt I’d make it to work without it. Great coffee, even better fruit loaf. I lashed out this morning and snapped up some rhubarb jam to make it a trio.

I had the pleasure of reviewing the Schick Hydro Silk Razor (definitely recommend) this week over at LifeStyled. Get onto it ladies.

Last but not least, I got my locks trimmed. I now have approximately 15000 less split ends thanks to Mr Saddler at Saddler Hair. There is no one else like him.

market lane coffee, prahran

I popped into Market Lane to grab a (much needed) coffee after my shopping trip to the Prahran Market on Saturday. What a wonderful cafe. It really encompasses my love of industrial hard lines, placed next to organic shapes and colours, which are found next door in the fresh produce section.

The fit out is fabulous, very open and airy which is in keeping with the tall shed structure of the adjacent market, but I think it’s the small details that make the space so successful. The way the beans and brewing equipment are displayed and styled make it really special; it is evident that a lot of time and effort has been put into styling the many different nooks and crannies of the café and nothing has been overlooked. Everywhere the eye falls there is a different display of coffee-related items available to buy, I wanted to snap everything up!

A really well executed fit out and overall aesthetic, Market Lane Coffee really suits its surroundings. I’ll be back next weekend for a shroom burger for sure!

to market, to market

I'm not really sure why of all signs at the market I snapped this one on Saturday morning, but a couple of hours later everything feel into place. Over a Saturday afternoon coffee at Gardiner & Field (more to come on that later), I found out that one of my friends got engaged and is getting married next year! I must have felt it in my waters. The first one of the group. All very exciting!

Anyway, I found myself at the market needing a bit of colour inspiration (the long dull winter seems to have gotten the better of me) and what better place to get it. I love naturally occurring colour and organic shape. It has always been a bit of an obsession - the natural/organic juxtapositioned with industrial/man made.

Here is a bit of colour to brighten up your Monday.

flower bombing

The girls and I with Holly

How. Much. FUN! Last night a couple of friends and I embarked on a flower bombing adventure with the wonderful Holly Hipwell (she is as fairy-like in real life as she is in the photos, amazing!). So much colour and so many flowers, I was in heaven. The bomb-a-thon was held at Nyary 604 which was a perfect location for the workshop. Nyary houses a great collection of items and antiques from all over the world...I felt right at home when I spotted my Zebra & Billy Goat heads (hand made in Hati) on the wall.

Thank you for coming to Melbourne Holly... I'm sure Sydney missed you but we sure as hell loved having you!

from where i'd rather be

I took these photos last year on one of my trips to Barwon Heads and Point Lonsdale. I love 'Diver Dan's' old place, now restaurant At The Heads. Made famous by Sea Change, whenever I see the peeling blue paint, the boats bobbing and old building hanging above the water, I can't help but sing the Sea Change theme song in my head. I know it's daggy but boy I loved that show. What I would give to be down there right now with a big glass of red and a good movie.

A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of meeting one of my all time favourite stylists - Claire Larritt-Evans. Not only is she a fantastically talented stylist, Claire is lovely to boot! I contacted Claire seeking her advice and not only was she willing to give me her invaluable insight into the industry, she let me help her with the window installment she was doing for A Shop Called Moth in Albert Park. To say Claire gave my level of inspiration the boost I so dearly needed would be an (extreme) understatement.

After meeting with Claire, I found myself walking away with a bucket full of goodies and the task of creating 9 twine balls. This involved a lot of glue, many many meters of twine and a bit of patience thrown in. It was a lengthy process but once I established a production line it was fairly straight-forward.

I can't take credit for the idea but I think the end result looks fantastic. Claire sprayed the balls in pastel colours which work really well with the new Spring clothes that are on their way in this season.

A job well done and a HUGE thank you to Claire!

nithsdale

I have been lucky enough to grow up in a pretty amazing house, "Nithsdale", which was built in 1855. Growing up in this fabulous home has fueled my love of interiors and design. Having been in a (what seems never ending) 'renovation state' for the last 25 years, living here has given me an insight into many different trades, lengthy decisions on layouts of rooms and of course, interior decoration.

I will keep you updated on the latest project, renovating a 1980's bathroom. Choosing tiles is so much harder than you think!
