a spot for joe

I took a pit-stop in G-Town over the weekend on my way to Pt Lonsdale. I had read about A Spot For Joe over at The Design Files and it has been on my to-do list for a while now. A great spot (ha!) for coffee and a refuel. A Spot For Joe has an interesting and delicious looking menu and after a tough decision, the smashed avocado was placed in front of me. A great choice. I love the simple colour palate of the interior of this cafe, it allows the fabulous print on the wall to really pop. Well worth a look.

friday wrap up

via

Blog of the week goes to Stefanie Ingram. Such a fantastic blog full of fabulous photography, interiors and styling. There is nothing too 'in your face' about this blog, it's simple and understated. A bookmark must!

The boys from Coin Laundry opened their newest cafe, Station Street Trading Co, last week. This lot know a good corner location when they see it. Stepping a bit further afield (Port Melbourne), the boys have stuck to their winning combination - an airy corner space not too far from public transport. Head down and check it out.

I went to the State Library to see the Gusto! exhibition during the week. Melbourne and food, what a combination! This fella is the menu for the 1960 Melbourne Cup, which is rather fitting with the Spring Carnival upon us. More to come on Gusto! next week.

Loving Hobba's new signage. Not really sure when they popped this up but I noticed it yesterday as I drove past. It's all about the neon. Speaking of, I must get onto my DIY neon sign...

 Happy Friday!

just gif'ing around

We had a bomb-a-thon (yes, another) last week. Big bombs this time! I managed to teach the chicks (aka my friends) how to bomb and I was v. impressed with their bombing-ability. So, I thought I would mix things up a bit and hit y'all with a gif. Having forgotten all my gif'ing skilz from uni this was a bit of a guessing game but I think we made it in the end (we totes did).

mini breath bombs

I turned my hand to mini breath bombs on Friday night. What fun! There was a bit of improvisation (the Oasis didn't come with netting so I used twine string instead) but all turned out fabulously well in the end.  The bombs were for my friends engagement party (more to come on that tomorrow!) which was a perfect excuse for a bomb-a-thon. I really recommend getting around Baby's Breath for your bombs - cheap, easy, would be great for baby showers...or wedding, birthdays, funerals, commiserating a broken nail...or even just for fun, bombs are really fun. The legend of the bomb is all over it, well done Holly Hipwell! Where would I be without your mad teaching skilz!?

friday wrap up

Blog of the week goes to Pattern People. Very fitting for this week as looking back, it seems to have been all about colour and pattern. I'm loving it at the moment. God forbid, I think the Melbourne uniform of black, black, (a little bit of leopard print) and black, is slowly morphing into a bit more Sydney-like fun.

I've gone nuts on spots, stripes and crosses this week. Verging on mentally insane/unhealthy. 4 dots, 1 cross and 2 stripes. Some from here, here and here.

Bathroom renovations are coming along nicely. Slow and steady wins the race. Hopefully it will all be sparkling come Christmas.

Fun things are happening over the next couple of days. Check back in on Monday... Happy Friday!

+39

+39. Ah-maze-ing. Not sure I can say much more as I am still recovering from my lunchtime pizza and vino. One brother owns DOC, the other +39. Need I say more. These guys know their pizza. Get around it.

experimenta speak to me

I went to the RMIT Gallery to see the 'Experimenta Speak to Me' exhibition. I'm not normally into media art but this exhibition was fun and something different. I loved the use of colour; it was freeing and refreshing. If you're in the area, go and check it out!

mr tulk

Only a stones throw away from work lies a cafe that could be one of Melbourne's greats. Sitting inside the State Library, Mr Tulk is a cafe with a great interior designed by Projects Of Imagination, the same crew behind Chin Chin, Coda, St Edmonds and Trunk, among a few others. I think these guys are my new favourites. They use colour (!), they have fun with the space, whilst also evoking a playful, yet serious, environment. Working within the confines of a building with such rich history and relevance in the city would have been no easy task. I think the result is fabulous. Modern, but not too modern. The history hasn't been forgotten. Mr Tulk (Augustus Tulk, the State Library's first librarian) is ever present, his bust and his name are all over the walls. Mr Tulk brings together the industrial and the hand made in a wonderfully wrapped wallpaper design. 10/10.

friday wrap up

Blog of the week goes to Harvest Textile Studio. These creative ladies are/should be an inspiration to all. Harvest Textiles is run by four very talented women who share a love of learning, teaching, hand crafted textiles and sustainability. I love the hands-on factor, it's what I crave. There is a real sense of community in all work they do and the bight colours, don't even get me started! If I could work in an environment half as inspiring as this lot I would be kicking goals.

It's very fitting that this particular blog of the week coincided with a very special delivery this morning. I'm very colourfully excited at the arrival of my new makeup bag! I even have my awesome Blanche leggings on so it's all very matchy-matchy this fine Friday. You can find the 'melting ice cream bags' over here.

I had my first Naked For Satan experience on Tuesday night, and what an experience it was. Where have I been for the last hundred years!? Dinner cost me, get this, EIGHT DOLLARS!! During the week Pintox are ONE DOLLAR! For all you uneducated ones out there (just kidding, I was a litlle sketchy as to what they were too), Pintox are a typical Basque finger food. Apparently they have around 30 different Pintox on rotation, all the flavours you could possibly want and more! Wandering hot Pintox (the waiters are wandering carrying the Pintox, the Pintox don't have legs, that would be weird). Perfect sport for a date. Check it out, I dare you.

getting around pinterest

via

I've had Pinterest for a while now. It's something that I get hooked on for a few days, forget about for a while, then remember again and the whole process continues on. Pinterest is a great way to gather all your ideas and inspirations. You 'pin' images and when you go back and click on them, they link back to the site that you originally found them from. HOW FABULOUS! It's like leaving a bread crumb trail through your cyber life, you will never get lost again! I used to have folders and folders of pictures saved to my desktop, they would stay there for ages and I would always forgot they ever existed. Never again, the revolution is here my friends! You can pin and make boards for anything - food, fashion and fat cats (I'm sure it exists). Anywho, check out my boards here

Happy pinning!
