collective espresso

This was all it looks and more. After an early morning Camberwell Market session we hit Collective Espresso for a well deserved feed (ok, well deserved could be taking it a bit too far but let's go with it). Sometimes the old 'smashed av' can be really hit and miss, but let me tell you, this one was bang on. Herbs, fetta and avo, Collective is all over it.

byron bay take two

It just dawned on me that I haven't posted any non-food related pictures from Byron Bay (it happens). Feels like it was forever ago now... what I would give to be back under that umbrella rather than being back under this florescent light.

porgie & mr jones

Porgie + Mr Jones, an oldie but a goodie. They've done a bit of a revamp recently and expanded into the space next door, adding another room and more space outside in the courtyard. P+MJ is my favourite place to go to eat outside on a nice day. Dappled light peeks through the trees along the back fence and the atmosphere is very relaxed out amongst the greenery and stone covered ground. You could almost mistake it for being out in a friends back garden. I always feel at home here. I can’t get past the white ram’s head on the black wall as you walk in the door, fabulous. I need one!

friday wrap up

Blog of the week goes to Patternity. There really is pattern in everything, from the mundane to the magnificent. If you were ever in doubt, Patternity proves it tenfold.

Where do I start!? This week feels like the never ending week of never ending-ness.

My internet has stopped working on my phone (thanks Vodafone), seriously halting my Instagraming. Rather devastating. It has made my life feel a bit like this fence - all over the shop. Fun, but very confused... American? Australian? Who knows.

I bought Megan Morton's new book, "Things I Love". It is definitely one of the things I love. Go and have a squizz, it's a must!

Baby. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. No Chin Chin but I guess the fact that they serve pizza rather than Asian infused dishes makes that a given. More of a family vibe going on here (think tables of parents with 4 kids, all with iPads). We had to wait an hour and a half for a table which was a bit redic but I guess that's sort of the norm these days with places like this. We felt a bit cheated that the iPadding 7 year olds were seated while we were standing at the bar close to starvation. Nonetheless, worth checking out. The pizza was good, the wine was flowing, a fun environment.

A thought for the week. This is my new all time favourite quote from Violet Trefusis, 1918. Megan Morton can take the thanks for this one. I'm oh-so-glad it's in my life!

Today is a real TGIF, happy weekend!

mm hits melbourne

What a couple of weeks it's been.  From the sunny beaches of Bryon Bay, to what feels like a week spent amongst the horses (or should I say fascinators) at Flemington, the last two weeks have been crazy. The whole package of craziness was neatly tied up in a (very pretty and well styled) bow yesterday, when I went to the wonderful Megan Morton’s ‘Science of Styling’ class held at The Establishment Studios.

WOW.

I have been waiting for this day for months and months. Initially I had booked into The School up in Sydney, but as luck would have it, MM announced her Melbourne descent and I quickly popped myself on the list.

I don’t think you could have picked a more perfect location for this fabulous day to take place. It really speaks for itself. Located in Prahran, The Establishment Studios is like an oasis amongst a concrete jungle. To have such a vast space in the middle of such a highly populated/commercial/busy area like this is truly like stumbling across a four leaf clover, but more about that tomorrow.

Megan Morton is one of the greats in the styling world. Not only is she a fantastically talented woman, she is funny, kind, incredibly humble and extremely generous. She truly encompasses what a teacher should be – approachable, knowledgeable, happy and inspirational (I could seriously go on forever). Highly successful and motivated, Megan said she has a bit of an ‘all or nothing’ approach to things, which is something I can relate to, but how Megan fits so much in I have no idea! From running The School, to writing books and styling everything in between, she is a bit like Wonder Woman (and an extremely lovely one at that). As soon as I walked into the room yesterday I could feel her warmth.

At one stage during the day I zoned out a bit. I know, I know, I should have been concentrating but I just got lost in the moment. I realised I was sitting there with a huge smile on my face and thinking “what an amazing woman”. It probably wouldn't matter if she was talking about pineapples, Nicole Kidman or a candle stick, Megan just has this way of making things fun. She makes you want to learn, and to be happy while learning, which I think is one of the most important things a teacher can do. She might not have the degree, but I think it is safe to say that Megan has ‘teacher’ flowing through her veins.

If you can get to one of The School’s classes – don’t even think about it, just do it. Trust me, you won’t regret it.

the top shop - byron bay

I've been sunning myself in lovely Byron Bay over the last week... well the sun was rarely out but let's just roll with it...

The Top Shop in Byron Bay is, and always probably will be, my favourite go-to seaside breakfast/lunch spot. Huge call, but I'm making it. The food is bang-on every time - simple, clean and uncomplicated. Perched on the top of a hill, The Top Shop doesn't have a sea view but what it does have almost makes up for the lack of water on the horizon. Happy young families, chilled out surfers and a general collection of 'cool' people are the types frequenting the lawn outside The Top Shop. The vibe is relaxed and easy going, you won't be pushed off a table here. People chow down on their meals while sitting on the nature-strip (probably as far from Melbourne-dining as you could get.. I loved it). I clearly went a little nuts on the food side of things but it was so worth it.
