going hypo for hydrangeas

Each time I've walked through the front gate over the last couple of weeks, I've been greeted by the amazing sight above. The colours are so varied and bright, fresh and crisp. Just oh so full of summer. I wish these bad-boy hydrangeas could last forever.

you look terrific babe

My obsession for Lucas Grogan is growing. This project in Hosier Lane combines two of my favorite things - Movida and Lucas. The project was commissioned by Citylights Projects, who responded to a request by Movida for a new, dynamic artwork to adorn Hosier Lane. You can check out some action scenes here.

The work aims to be interactive and familiar and that, it is. It makes me want to set up my deckchair and never leave the lane.

Lucas, all I want for Christmas is you.

friday wrap up

Blog of the week goes to Sonia Rentsch. From now on I will be playing with my food. Sorry in advance.

I had a real 'light bulb' moment late last week. I needed to get rid of my bookcase. It was very circa 1999 and had to go. Once I get something in my mind, it has to be done (preferably yesterday). So off to Ikea I went. I snapped up 3 high gloss floating shelves, managed to haul them to my car (all by myself) and got on my merry way.

Please don't judge me on that first picture (I am). The end result is a huge improvement. I am yet to put everything back/cull half the stuff that once was, but that is this weekend's project. Of course, everything was centered around MM's Things I love, what a wonderful ruler it makes!

I accidentally bought this beauty from búl yesterday. First peach item in my wardrobe... I'm actually pretty excited at its arrival. Welcome, I'm sure we will be the best of friends.

Finally went to David's post renovation. A very clean space, lots of white with touches of blue (interior designed by Hecker Guthrie). Industrial chairs and open space. The food was great, as was the company!

We celebrated our two year anniversary at work with stiff drink. Oh and also, after two years together, it seems we all dress the same now as well. Awkward much?

Miss Chu. 'nough said.

raspberry and coconut cake

I finally snapped up a Lucas Grogan plate, available here. This provided endless inspiration and it seemed the only thing to do was make a blue holey cake.

I went a bit DIY with the icing, but the recipe (which I can highly recommend) can be found here.

(Next on my 'to buy' list is without a doubt this Dawn Tan duo. I really wish I had more of a use for melamine plates!!)

the cool house

Saturday was a busy day. Not only was The Design Files Open House open, but The Cool Hunter brought us The Cool House. The Cool House had a bit more of a warehouse feel to it, but nonetheless was filled to the brim with designer good-ness.

Things I learnt from The Cool House
• I love pink (a lot)
• I love Loom rugs. I'll take them all, thanks
• You can't go past fresh flowers, they make all spaces wonderful. Thank you Fleur
• Black and white stripes are amazing
• Dinosaur Designs is back in a big way. Their homewares are amazing
Koo Koo Letterboxes are still on the top of my wish-list (just need the house first, minor detail)
• THERMO VACUUM FLASKS ARE REALLY COOL!?!
• I really, really love pink

Thank you Cool House, you truly were really cool.

the design files open house

The Design Files Open House was alive and kicking over the weekend, and what a weekend for an open house it was! Melbourne turned on the sort of weather we all know it's capable of. The sun was shining, Market Lane coffee was brewing and stripes were abundant.  Lovely ladies (and gents) filled the very swanky Windsor house in droves. I went twice, the first time I was just too overwhelmed with amazing-ness to really take it all in properly. Although I was devastated that all the Miranda Skoczek pieces were sold (of course they were, come on Al) and I missed the wonderful Megan Morton in her blue PJ's, I thoroughly enjoyed my time at TDF Open House. It's fair to say that I would have gladly taken everything home with me (including the house itself).

Well done Lucy and team, can't wait for next year. 10/10.

collective espresso

This was all it looks and more. After an early morning Camberwell Market session we hit Collective Espresso for a well deserved feed (ok, well deserved could be taking it a bit too far but let's go with it). Sometimes the old 'smashed av' can be really hit and miss, but let me tell you, this one was bang on. Herbs, fetta and avo, Collective is all over it.

byron bay take two

It just dawned on me that I haven't posted any non-food related pictures from Byron Bay (it happens). Feels like it was forever ago now... what I would give to be back under that umbrella rather than being back under this florescent light.

porgie & mr jones

Porgie + Mr Jones, an oldie but a goodie. They've done a bit of a revamp recently and expanded into the space next door, adding another room and more space outside in the courtyard. P+MJ is my favourite place to go to eat outside on a nice day. Dappled light peeks through the trees along the back fence and the atmosphere is very relaxed out amongst the greenery and stone covered ground. You could almost mistake it for being out in a friends back garden. I always feel at home here. I can’t get past the white ram’s head on the black wall as you walk in the door, fabulous. I need one!
